Given the height of the dates trees, it is difficult to control and monitor the work at the palm orchard.  The height complicates access to the work point and hampers palm tree orchard manager’s abilities to check and monitor the quality of the work. In addition, the need for expensive high-tower picking machines, which can cost hundreds of thousands of shekels each, along with the high cost of labor, greatly increases overall harvesting costs.

The PickApp solution for palm tree orchards is simple and elegant – “A barcode for every tree”.  After networking all the trees in the orchard, a one-time task, and providing a unique address to each tree according to its location in its plot, the system creates a map which perfectly represents the plots.

From then on, every action carried out in the orchard can be measured and controlled.  Each work team using high-tower picking machines scans the bar code located at the top of the tree being harvested.  This allows for real-time work monitoring.

An analytical engine calculates the work rate of each team and compares the teams, alerting managers to underperforming teams with low work rates.  The orchard manager thereby receives a precise, up-to-date picture of the work being done in the orchard, in real-time, as well as a focus on problematic work teams which require administrative action.

The ability to know exactly which team and which workers have carried out particular work on a given tree provides managers an “address” for correcting errors and providing constructive feedback, thereby improving work and product quality.

In the portal, the detailed data is presented in both chart and graph formats, at both the individual worker and the team level, according to plot and specific agrotechnical actions carried out.

 

In addition, various agronomic data, such as the number of clusters collected, reports of damage by pests and more, fed into the system by the workers as they work, are also displayed as additional layers of data on each plot’s tree map.
